Family Planning For Our 4-legged Friends Transport of adoptable pets to rescue partners
About Us
Prevention – Access to Spay/Neuter Services
Bosque Spay Neuter (BSN) is a nonprofit dedicated to providing access to affordable spay/neuter services for pet owners in Bosque County. Three days a week, BSN transports dogs and cats from Bosque County to the Animal Birth Control Clinic (ABC) in Waco, a nonprofit, affordable, spay/neuter clinic. This service makes it easier for Bosque County families that are financially challenged to spay and neuter their pets and relieves them of the worry of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens. Since 2015, through our partnership with ABC, BSN has spayed and neutered over 3,500 cats and 800 dogs, helping Bosque County families provide needed preventative vet care for their loved pets. Transport
In 2017 we began a relocation program, transporting dogs and cats to rescue partners in highly populated areas with a greater adoption demand. Transport to rescues in highly populated areas gives the dog and cat the exposure they need to aid adoption and allows the shelter to be a safety net for more animals in the community. In the five years since we began our transport program, 1,800 dogs and 1,700 cats have found homes with more than 25 rescue groups in the US and Canada. Our spay/neuter program, transporting puppies and kittens, dogs and cats to rescue partners is one part of the solution to pet overpopulation in Bosque County. It’s an especially useful tool for shelters in small rural areas where adoptable dogs and cats can languish too long in the shelter simply because not enough people know about them. Adoption into a loving home is the ultimate goal.
Services for stray animals
We are also called to help in challenging situations – stray puppies born under an abandoned house, homeless kittens left in a plastic tub, pets left behind when families hit a rough patch and are evicted from their home. All these situations require thoughtful strategies to find the help needed – a foster for the kittens, puppies transported to a rescue partner, compassionate assistance rehoming pets for families struggling with a financial setback and the deep emotional pain of having to leave their beloved pets behind. Because of the support of our donors, we were able to respond in each of these situations with solutions that saved lives and gave people and their pets the help they needed.
